Wanaka
While staying at Lake Hawea, we visited wanaka twice. A nice small town by the Lake Wanaka, a beautiful lake with lovely blue water.
What we loved doing in and around Lake Wanaka.

At the lake
Lazing and bathing at the lake is a perfect thing to do on a sunny day. The lake has crystal clear water and is shallow at the banks. But its a bit too pebbly for my feet so I recommend carrying good water shoes. But if you forget, don’t worry, get in the water and enjoy.

Enjoy nature
Throwing stones in a small stream. Yes. Throwing stones in the water can consume over an hour and more if you manage to keep the kids fed, while you can enjoy the nature.

Cycling
Though the entire country is great for cycling, we started here. For smaller kids, they have an amazing attachment that they call ‘pull-along’. It attaches to your cycle at the back so that the kid will not have to balance or brake, just paddle. It was perfect for Thing 2. We didn’t get too far with kids, but it was a start.
The Puzzling World
It seemed more of a tourist trap at first but since it was highly recommended, we thought of giving it a try. And we were not disappointed. The maze was interesting but kids got frustrated and tired after finding one tower. But the cafe had lots of different puzzles to keep everyone busy. The cafe food was very sad else I would just go there to play with those games and eat.
Food
We loved the food at Francesca’s Italian Kitchen. Lovely Italian place with the best margarita pizza ever. I could just habe it everyday. Away from home, one afternoon as we were craving some home food, we tried well rated Sagun cafe. They were about to close but they were kind enough to pack us the food. But the food was not good. First, I am not a big fan of typical north Indian food widely available in Indian restaurants. Sweet paneer curry, oily daal, a huge naan made from maida. It just feels very unhealthy. May be we selected the wrong dishes.
And at any place in the world, you can enjoy a simple ice-cream!
